They went through the design docs and discussion notes that they had and started to enumerate all of the specific design compromises and the behaviour that we would need to be comfortable with if we wanted to present both file and object interfaces as a single unified system. We all looked at it and agreed that it wasn’t the best of both worlds, it was the lowest common denominator, and we could all think of example workloads on both sides that would break in surprising, often subtle, and always frustrating ways.
